1973 Heald Minibike – Part 2

The vintage Super Bronc Minibike lives again! I had originally planned to restore the bike to its stock condition using the original HM80 motor, but I ultimately decided to opt for increased performance using modern parts.

I put a new Tillotson 212cc engine in it with a Comet 30 torque converter. Ditching the stock torque converter also meant that I lost the incorporated band brake. I solved this problem by fabricating a front drum brake. While I was at it, I increased the engine’s horsepower by switching out the carb’s fuel jet, adding a more efficient air filter, adding a larger exhaust pipe, and deleting the governor.

I also retrofitted LEDs into the stock light housings; both the headlight and taillight are now powered using a Dewalt battery (stepped down to 12v). I 3d printed a handlebar switch to control the lights.
